Leen Gorissen, PhD in Biology, works with companies, governments and
organisations to help them ‘think outside’ – not only out-of- the-box but also out in
nature – and ‘create regenerative value’ – not only solutions but also capabilities.
Because nature’s R&D is 3.8 billion years ahead of ours. Many organisms have
already solved the challenges we are grappling with but with far greater economy of
means and creativity of design. One that taps the power of limits and withstands
generations of change and disruption.
As an innovation biologist and sustainability transitions expert, Leen shows
companies that consulting nature makes business sense and she guides them
through transformative (business model) innovation processes. She has worked with
e.g. nexxworks, Triodos, SAS, Philips, Melotte, Climate KIC, Business Leaders,
VITO, the European Commission, the European Environment Agency, the Swedish
Environment Agency, the Portuguese Business Council for Sustainable development
and is the lead author of an upcoming book on accelerating urban transitions to
sustainability. Bio-inspired innovation, systems thinking, and regenerative design and
development are core interests and action-oriented impact R&D are favoured
